September 2013: Places You Should Consider Submitting Your Manuscript

Aspiring authors, we know how disheartening it can be to look out into the abyss of potential publishing houses and only see the same old phrase, “no unsolicited manuscripts accepted.” These days many major publishing houses rely on their ties with literary agents and in-house promotions to find new authors. But don’t despair; today we’ve come up with a list of ten places — from off-the-beaten path publishers to special back doors of the big-name houses — that would welcome your query letter, manuscript or submission. So polish that manuscript and get it out there. Good luck! Remember us when you're huge.

Pelican Book Group - Pelican is on the lookout for inspirational teen reads for their Watershed Imprint. Do you have a gripping and uplifting young adult story you think would be a perfect fit for Watershed? Then head on over to their website to view their submission guidelines!

Entangled Publishing - Entangled’s Scandalous imprint is currently accepting submissions for their upcoming anthology, Who’s That Girl? Instead of providing a certain theme or topic as inspiration, they’ve given writers a book cover as a prompt. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity! To view the image and the guidelines, click here.

Harlequin - Harlequin’s recently announced Digital First Series imprint has added some exciting new items to their wishlist. If you love writing about your favorite television shows, then Harlequin Pop! is the line for you. Do you have a great space opera you’d love to see published? Then Harlequin Space Opera is a match made in heaven. Or do you think you’re the next bestselling New Adult author? Well, be sure to check out Harlequin New Adult. To view all the current lines and submission guidelines, visit Harlequin’s website here.

Swoon Romance - Swoon editors are looking for titles to rival current reader favorites like J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, On the Island by Tracy Garvis Graves and Cora Carmack’s Losing It. To see if you’re story might be a good fit, view the editors’ wish lists here.

Boxfire Press - Boxfire is a small press specializing in science fiction and fantasy, and they're ready to see your manuscript, particularly if it’s a young adult novel! Bonus points if it features a strong, prominent gay character. For more information on this up-and-coming publisher’s submission guidelines, please visit their website.

Fated Desires - Fated Desires, a small, romance-focused publisher, has announced their 2014 wish list! They’re looking for great, romantic and steamy reads that fall into the following categories: erotic contemporary singles and/or series, New Adult, romantic suspense, contemporary menage and sweet contemporary series.
