I love YA novels and I probably will until I'm old and frail in my sick bed. There's just something in YA books that you can't get in other books. It's got adventure, it's got action. It's got everything you could ever ask for. When I read YA books, I can relate to the characters and hopefully, I won't get to the age where I can't relate to them anymore. (I'm 14.) I love reading these books because they're so interesting and they're not what normal books normally are about. They're about the unexpected and the things we wish could happen to us. YA readers are at the age where they can believe in anything. The authors are devoted to their fans, as we are to them and somedays we need a break, so we curl up with our favorite YA book and just relax. YA books give us an escape that you just can't get with ordinary books.
Smart Chicks Kick It Tour - YA books: educational AND awesome :)
Submitted by maggieR (not verified) on October 7, 2010 - 12:15am.
i love YA books because they can teach you so much. for example, seeing the struggle that characters go through and the way they come out swinging is an admirable trait that makes me want to be like them. (i mean, who wouldn't want to be like these awesome characters?)
another thing i love this genre is the way that we can connect with the stories; since the characters are our generation and go through similar struggles (or, ya know, not if they just so happen to be a necromancer ;) ), we can better relate with their feelings and thought process. it is because of these two reasons readers can learn a lot about how to make the best of situations through books and simply love life.
On the noneducational side, YA books, where anything is possible, are just plain breath-taking!! they bring new, impossible worlds to you that no one has ever explored before. whenever i get a new book, i want to dive into it and not resurface until that world was thoroughly searched and left me with a sense of amazement lasting days afterward. i absolutely adore books when they have story lines that make me eager to pick the book up again the next day or impatiently wait for the next installment months from then. also, when i look at a book i had already read in my shelf and yearn to return to that world again, i can't help but feel happy because the world of that book feels like a new, far away land that only i know about (well... along with many, MANY others).
To sum it up, YA books are tools that can unlock our imagination and let it run wild alongside the characters and learn with them through their victories and defeats.

Why do I love YA?
It's fun, it's full of good plot, and it's usually roll on the floor funny. Young adults/teens are also much more exciting than adults (sorry mom). There's stronger emotions and larger mistakes, but you can almost feel the characters coming to life. Personalities are also much more emphasized in YA than adult books. Needless to say, they're typically more exciting, since the plot needs to move along more quickly to capture teens attentions (I know my attention span is pretty short).
Thanks for the giveaway!

I love your books because of the characters. Ever in Evermore was a charchter with everyone could relate to. We all have are dark moments a trajates in our life. Asilinn was a character in wich you rooted for her the whole time. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what she would do and who she would pick. I was rooting for Seth the whole time. Chloe in the Summoning was a character that reminded me of me. She was outgoing, courages and smart and anyone could aspire to be here. I also was in LOVE with Dereck and he is the perfect guy for me and i wish he was a real person. Well i guess he is real in my heart. I love your books and hope that you all wright some more.

Ok, I have to say it...I am 26! I am addicted to YA books. Maybe some people think I am too old to read them, but they are either crazy or jealous lol. I'm not ashamed to say I LOVE YA BOOKS! The plots are great, the teens are usually funny and coming into their own, the romance is sweet without being way to mature for everyone like most adult books (lol). I usually start off reading the author's adult books, love the author, and just read anything she writes, and find that I get more addicted to the YA books. Kelly Armstrong is one of my all time favorite authors. I started with her Otherworld series. I just finished the Darkest Powers series and I would LOVE the new book. I hate waiting for new books to come out. =) Regardless, I just want to let the authors know that I love their books! Great job!

I enjoy YA because good books are good books. An engaging story in a place brought to life by a skilled author with characters I feel as though I should know. I simply love to read and omnivorous in my tastes. Well-written YA books are a gift and a whole new genre for me to explore. Also, they sometimes bring me back to a point in my life I thought was well behind me. But when I read these stories, I find the perspective of those days isn't quite so far from my mind. Great books are a gift, and YA are no exception - thank you!
Why I love YA novels
Submitted by meolane913 on September 13, 2010 - 1:02am.
I'm 14 and the reason I love YA novels is because they are perfect for my age group. YA books are advanced enough that they are obviously not for kids, and they usually have some element of romance. However, the romance is not explicit most of the time, like it might be in adult novels. I also love YA novels because the characters in the books are often epoeriencing some of the same things I am. I can relate to them, and their reactions don't seem too adult; they act like I would act, and it's fun to read something like that.I enjoy reading a YA novel and thinking, wow I wish they were real so they could be my friend! I love any YA book because it allows me to go to another world, where there are different people and more exciting things going on. YA is without a doubt my favorite thing to read, and I'd love to read Kelley Armstorng's books!
Young Adult Books
Submitted by vanette22 on September 11, 2010 - 5:32pm.
How can I begin to praise the books of Young Adult authors? I honestly don't know where to start. I was nine when I picked up my first novel, and I've rarely been seen without one since. Melissa Marr's books were the first one's I read with a paranormal aspect to them and it was that moment when I set Wicked Lovely down that ruined me. Most girls buy clothes and accesories with birthday money, I raid Borders. I have to admit when I read the summary of The Summoning I put it back on the shelf, but then the next time I was at the bookstore that cover kept catching my eye, so I thought What the heck? and got it from the library. I read it in under a day. Since then Kelley Armstrong has been my favorite author. I've read all her books within days of their release, and they're finished in under a week. I'm on the second book in Alyson Noel's Immortal's series and I'm having a hard time concentrating in school with it sitting right there on my desk.
Seriously though, these three ladies (among others) are the reason I have a bookstack on my nightstand currently containing seven books. It's unbelievable how much I've learned from faeries, werewolves, and other supernatural teens, really, it is.

I must say that out of every book I read, and I do read a lot, I love young adult fiction books. These books are some of the best series I have ever read. Kelley Armstrong is my favorite author. I love her take on the supernatural. I only wish these enchanting powers were real so the series could last forever. Kelley belongs to these amazing novels like Derek and Chloe.
I love Alyson Noel. She runs a close second in my favorite novels. Ever will always be a part of me. She and Damen have the purest love of any two people I have ever known existed. I love the terror of them being apart almost as much as I love them being together.
I want to thank every writer on this tour for being amazing at writing and being able to create stories that everyone love. Coming from a teen girl, it is an accomplishment just to get us to read in most cases, much less captivate us with stories of love and adventure. I award you for understanding the strangest species known to mankind, the teenager.

Though i also read Romance Novels. For me it all started with Young Adult Novels. I used to hate reading. I would watch tv for 8 hours straight! I will admit i am not a great speller, and i have trouble understanding some things when it comes to reading but please do not think i just role with the crowed. I am now a Jounior in High School and my intrest in YA started with The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke, I love the suspense, the magic, the way i just can't help but guess ahead. I soon started to read A Series of Enfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket by then i was in 6th grade. After a while i heard of yes you guessed it...dun, duh, DUHNNN! Twilight. My best friend was reading and she read my some lines(the part where Edward first takes Bella to his medow) i just had to read it (note: this is when i was still in 8th grade and months before Twilight was popular) i ended up read the entire series in one week (i had to wait for Breaking Dawn to come out) and i re-read them again and again. soon i widened my variety and started reading Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Kelly Armstrong, Rachel Vincint, Rachel Caine, L.J. Smith, P.C & Kristian Cast...and many more. I now have 138 books(this includes my Romance novels that i bought too) and almost half are YA. Young Adult started everything for me how can i not love it?!

I have only read Alyson Noel's Immortal and Kelly Armstrong's Darkest Powers series but Melissa Marr's book sounds amazing an will probable read that as soon as I can get my hands on the first book!
I read young adult novels for a variety of reason but the main one would be as cliche it sounds is that I can relate better to the characters and the situations they face. In these novels though they are living in a world surrounding by supernatural and fantasy elements, I can still find myself relating to the main character. They are young teenage girls dealing with the same issues and problems, crushes on boys you could never be with, parents lying to you, adults treating you like a child or that you do not know a thing, and the feelings that you are not normal and that no one else feels the same way you do. I am currently no longer a teenager, being 23 but I can still relate to the character, much easier than i could if I was reading a book where the main character was 40 with a husband and family.
I also like that I am able to place myself in the character footsteps and experience what they are experiencing. In the case of Darkest Powers i could literal walk in Chloe's footsteps because I live close to Buffalo NY. If I was to pick up a novel where again the main character was 40 with a family I would have a really hard time placing myself in her shoes. Currently I would not find her story as interesting or relate-able as ones I encounter in YA novels.
Finally I read YA adults novels because they offer me an escape into a world that is not my own and give me a chance to relax and read something that i do not have to analysis or write a report on. I just finished college where I had about 150-200 pages of politically related articles or case briefs to complete weekly. However my time to relax and escape was done by reading YA novels.

I love to read. But YA books are my favorites because I can relate to what is happening in them. I read all day just to see what happens sometimes. Reading YA books helps me to spend spare time and watch less tv. Without them I'd probably just be bored all the time and annoy my family, lol. But I really like YA books because they are mostly fiction and they're fun to read and put yourself in the characters shoes. The only part I don't like about reading YA is when I finish a series, it's so sad and final :( But I can always count on finiding another great series to read by great YA authors like Kelley Armstrong and anybody else I can get my hands on. These are all reasons I like YA and I would really like Kelley Armstrong's 'Darkest Powers' series.

YA books are, in my opinion, a HUGE influence on teens. The main character can be a best friend to me when mine is falling flat. I can go on an adventure without ever leaving my room, or needing to; I can become the main character as they develop, learn to trust, learn heart break or feel the sting betrayal. And I mature through out the book(s). Both in the way I speak, write, etc.; but also in mind and confidence. Young adult literature makes people grow up more quickly, I believe, and has changed my life, probably more then I'm aware.
That's my reason for why I love and believe that YA books are to me.
If I win I'd like to have Kelley Armstrong's books and my email address is:

Hmm, I love YA because the books are about teens, people I can relate to because I'm around the same age as the characters, I might have gone through what the character is, or I can imagine it. I like how, with just about any book, I can get lost in it. With good writing, which there are lots in YA, how well thought out it is, how you can get inside the characters head, understand how they feel. I also like how there's a good mix of supernatural, romance, action in them, and there's a variety of YA books that are cute, fluffy books, and there are intense, dark ones. How you can get such a good image of a character in your head, and how, when you find a really good book, the characters can get stuck in your head, and they can leave a good, or bad, imprint on your mind.

Hi!
I haven't read Melissa Marr's series (But I have heard very good things about it!). I have read the first two of Alyson Noel's Immortals series and all of Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Power books.
I loved The Immortals because the characters seem to come alive in my head every time I read! I love the Darkest Powers Trilogy because of the fact that Chloe was just a normal girl at the beginning and how much she grows throughout the trilogy. Why I love YA? Because it's so addictive! It's hard to name just one thing that I like about it. I like that even though it may be a novel with supernatural things, many of the issues and lessons are ones that appear in reality. I also like it because usually the books are fast-paced and pretty much impossible to put down! I almost can't put it into words. There is just something about YA books that just sticks with me and I'm usually hooked by the first couple of pages!
I love to read. I've loved it ever since I can remember. But my real obsession started with Harry Potter in middle school. I was a target for bullies and Harry Potter is what got me through. My teen years weren't horrible, but they were very different than the average teen. There were some changes made in our family dynamics and the way things ran in the household. It was very hard at times because my house kind of felt like a prison. My only escape was school, work, and getting my head into a good book. These books were mostly YA books. The books that I read made me feel like I wasn't alone or that even though my life seems sucky, that there is always someone out there who is a lot worse off than I am.

i love ya novels for multipule reasons. i love the fact that a lot of the characters are around my age so i can relate to them. but my favorite thing about them is that no matter what is happening in the real world you can always open a ya novel and find yourself in a new wonderful amazing place where characters and places come alive and you feel like u were actually one of the characters written into the book and not a reader.

I love young adult novels because they can be anything and have any ending and you'll still love them. I personally have a preference to adventure or horror books. But having the romance and everything in between makes the book even better because it shows that the author is flexible and can make more books that are just as good as the ones already out. I also love young adult books because they show how teenagers work and they explain them so well, you'd think that a teenager was writing the book. I guess I'm just saying that I like all young adult books and the authors who write them.

I have loved to read my entire life, but as a wife and mother, I found it difficult to squeeze reading into all the things I have to do. YA fiction has solved that problem for me. The stories are well written with characters anyone, any age, can relate to. I do not discriminate; a good book is a good book, and I don't really mind if other adults don't understand why YA fiction is so wonderful. I know that many YA books have great story lines that are straightforward without millions of tangents that I have to try and keep up with. Reading YA books are a joy;I can easily loose myself in the wonderful world of make-believe for an hour or two a day. The bonus is that I have a terrific selection of books lying around that I don't mind my kids to picking up!

I feel as if they have a certain touch that most other novels don't have. when I read a YA novel my attention is caught and held for the entire book while it is not with the other novels. I also feel that when I read a YA novel I am free to have fun with it while with the other ones I feel as if I am supposed to learn from it or that I just can't get into them.

I haven't had the opprotunity to read Melissa's or Alyson's series, but I have fallen completely for Kelley's YA series. Some of the things that make me fall in love with a really good YA series is the character's reality factor. I have read books where the character seems too artifical or they seem too helpless. Heroic characters are the best. So what if people can't really be super natural. That's why it's a book. I really enjoy reading about protagonists who not only seem real, but are strong and admirable. Even though the series are fictional and in most cases, have scenarios that would never happen to the average teen, the character still experiences problems that readers can relate to. And if Chloe can handel crushing on a cute guy AND running for her life while dealing with haunting ghosts, maybe my issues with being too shy for my crush and an almost overload of homework isn't so bad.
I also love reading YA series becuase the suspense and emotion helps me find my ever fleeting muse. I usually don't do fan art becuase I am terrible with portaits, but I do try (and fail) and sometimes simple details in the books like location, food, a good sunset or a really good discription helps me find that creative spark that sends me doodling away on the back of homework or on some actually blank paper if I'm able to grab some at the time the spark hits.
Thank you to all the authors that give thier readers the creative words and insperation that keep the creative cycle flowing^,^.

The YA series has an amazing authors to catch the readers eye when you past by the YA section at a bookstore or online store. For example, people like myself can relate to the books, even if some are filled with supernatural creatures. The teen characters have a life of its own and growing personality as the story grows. The adults in the series also have a serious mood but once you get to know them you can see their childish/playful side. In addition, YA series gives a chance of freedom from the real world. When I get stuck on an idea of what to draw or writing a report, I would stop my work, and start reading one of my favorite YA series, The Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong, but when i feel comfortable I will go back to it. The stories have a fun side when you read it with others especially with your friends. When I was middle school I never liked reading at all, until one of my english teachers gave me a young adult book and I have been reading young adults books ever since.
(The illustrations on the front of some of the YA adult books are fabulously good looking)

Why I love YA books!
To put it blankly--I love YA books, because it slips you into another world that secretly, behind your knowledge of what exists and what is fiction, you truly believe that this "could happen", even though you do not always "see" the supernatural. Ya books test those bounds and makes you think that "yes, this could happen." It also is enjoyable because it is an escape!

Honestly, I have only read Kelley Armstrong’s YA series, which I was a little afraid to at first because I love her Otherworld Series and was afraid I wouldn't like it. I was definitely wrong on that, I am absolutely enthralled with them.
I started to read them because I wanted something to read that was more relatable and also something to help me escape the bitter reality of my current life situation, and it worked.
I was consumed by the novels, going out and renting them from the library as soon as I had the chance (couldn't/can't afford to buy them then).
I couldn't put them down. Although the characters are supernatural, they had to deal with every day teen emotions and problems; conflicted feelings over two guys, parental issues, the twist and turns of life.
It’s them struggling and keeping optimism through out the novels that made me love it so much. That you have to fight and work for a happy ending. Although it’s not an ending for them yet in the series, they still have a lot to worry about and to deal with.
The books helped make me gain the optimistic view on life I had lost from everything going on around me in my life. Although I know that such a situation like in the book, couldn't really happen in real life, it was great to get the feeling back that as long as you fight for it and stay positive, you'll be happy.
I am only 18 years old and sometimes it feels like I am 1000 years old, my life is complicated and a little tragic, but these books help give an escape and make me feel happy and good, which is not always easy to come by.

Reading is my passion, my escape, and my biggest hobby. All the YA authors are amazing and i can't get enough of their books. I couldn't wait for Kelley Armstrong NEW series but then i found out it doesn't come out until next year. It was very depressing but i am still AMAZINGLY EXCITED. Super Natural books are my favorites especially when the main character is a strong women or teen. I am now a Freshman in college and will still try to buy all the new books by YA authors even though i don't have much money. I can't express how happy i am that you are giving away books. Sadly i just moved from Sacramento, Ca to Reno, Nv for College so i won't be able to visit the tour. Although i will follow it all through the blogs. I LOVE books more than anything so i can't wait to see what new books are soon to come out and I will especially try to stay patient while waiting for The Gathering.

I 300% luv the YA books as they help me deal with problems that i face like peer pressure,love/lust, and social problems. They also help give me a different perspective on life as they show me how some one else deals with a similar problem and what may be the best way for me to deal with the problem. The YA books are also a great way to help improve my reading and vocabulary as i am dyslexic. The YA books are written brilliantly so that all teenagers can relate to them. They are also a great form of entertainment as one can get lost within the plot and characters. I absolutely love the para-normal part to the books as it gives them just that extra twist to make them just so much more attention grabbing and entertaining. Thanks so much for writing all your awsum books!!!

Why do I like YA books?
To be honest, I wasn't the kind of person who will take a book that doesn't have pictures, that it is only writhing and more writhing. I even hated having to read. Until my mom got me the fist book of Darkest Power's by Kelley Armstrong, against my will. She make me read it, at first i was like I don't want to, but I did it anyways because I couldn't put it down. The characters, the conflict, the super powers make me forget about TV even the computer. I was so in love with the book that i started going to the library to look for more books that i could get my hands on. After spending most of my holiday glued to a book I was prepared to continue looking for inform about the authors and other books that I didn't know about.
My dream is to be a writer and reading the stories given by several writers of YA made that dream even more stronger and even real. But as I continue studying and scribbling on my paper, I follow every summer and winter vacations the words, characters and their adventures that YA has to offer until schools starts.
YA has give me characters with wish I can relate to, fall in love and fight for that love, run from the enemy until I'm ready to face it. Learn from my mistakes and try to listen when I am in trouble. The covers are great, they get the attention of anyone who sees it.

they help me forget the trials and tribulations of my daily life. I especially love paranormal YA novels because they help me remember that even if my day seems to be going badly, at least I'm not being dealing with the monumental problems these teens face! I love them because they're so well written I stay up until the wee hours of the morning reading them, just because I can't find a good place to stop. And finally, I love them because they've helped me connect with so many other wonderful people that share my interest in them!

Smart Chicks Kick It Tour Giveaway - Why I Read YA :)

I read YA for many reasons but mostly it is because I can relate so much to the feelings that some of the characters have, I am still a teenager and I feel like I always will be at heart. Reading is a sort of escape for me from my real life and stepping into someone else's shoes for a while, now whether the story is realistic or not, in most books I can relate to a charater one way or another. I love how YA authors are not afraid to tackle problems that real teens are facing, letting them know that they are not the only ones that have faced that problem because at times that is what it feels like. Not only that but I want to be a writer and they say that you should read in the genre that you write and I write YA. I have read books by several of the authors mentioned especially the Immortals series, Alyson Noel is among my favortie authors. I have yet to read the Wicked Lovely series or The Darkest Power series but I look forward to reading them soon.

I love YA books because they are so addictive, they're well written, do not insult the readers intelligence and tell great stories. My favourite YA author is definetley Kelley Armstrong cause I love supernatural/paranormal fiction, particulary when it's 'realistic' and deals with genuine issues too, like not allowing anyone to abuse you, standing up for yourself and your belief's, peer pressure and self-esteem issues and other issues that can and do affect people in real life. I love the humour in YA novels and the writing styles, the only real difference between adult lit and YA lit is the content i.e. levels of swearing and sexual content, which is why it's so popular, it's intelligent, enjoyable and engaging.

These books have a way better story line without all of the sex and language. To me they are just better reads!
Why I love YA?

Why I love YA? Well, because sometimes I still relate more to YA protagonists than adult. I think I'm still an awkward, wanting to be accepted teenage girl at heart. And even without that, the teen years are such a time of changes that it adds that extra element into the characters.

I love adult lit too, but if I want a story without the erotic component then YA is like lemon sorbet between courses.

Why I love YA
Submitted by GloriousBooks on September 2, 2010 - 9:50am.
The main reason is because I can relate to them. Being in my teens I like to read about teen related issues that occur mostly in YA books. Characters in good YA books always go through typical problems such as boy/girl troubles and the like even if the book is of the paranormal genre!
I also love the imagination that goes into most YA books. It's refreshing; anything can happen and it makes for good stories that keep me on the edge on my seat.

YA novels are my escape from everyday life. They let me be someone I'm not just for the few moments I am able to sit down and read. They let me experience a whole other life all while I am still living my own life. They are a pleasant day dream on my hour long lunch break. They are MY newest episode of a great TV show my boyfriend is watching snuggled up next to me. They let me believe there is something more. Other times they are a blissful reminder on myself when I was that _____ (fill in the blank) type teenager. They are truths that at some point in life, everyone can relate to. They are a reminder that you can enjoy an awesome book without having to feel so overwhelmed in word play, or feel stupid that you can't understand what exactly the meaning or use of a word or sentence was trying to express. They don't beat around the bush, they just come out and paint that perfect picture in your mind. And for that brief moment you are engulfed in your own world. Where the characters take over and you are watching it all unfold directly in your mind as if it was the real thing happening in front of you. They allow you to be that fly on the wall, or the voice you hear in your head. They simply are!
YA novels

There are a few reasons why I love YA novels:
1. Most of the time they're fairly short.
2. Even the most depressing has a spark of hope (except, apparently, for "Mockingjay").
3. They remind me of being a teen.
4. They make me happy that I won't ever be a teen again.
5. They also make me happy not to be a teen now (paranormals notwithstanding). As weird and trying as my teen years were, it could be worse.
6. The plots are fairly linear and straightforward; I hate taking notes during reading a book for fun just to keep everyone/everything straight (especially if I won't be reading the whole book in one sitting).
There are probably more reasons, but I'll stop for now.

I love YA because it helps me keep connected with younger individuals. I am around a lot of teens, many of whom come from troubled homes or bad situations. So, reading YA books gives me an opportunity to share a constructive way of dealing with problems. And lets face it some of the toughest problems in life come from the teen years. I also believe, sometimes walking through problems with an imaginary character can give experience to the reader as well. Sharing the experiences of these strong fictional characters is always so empowering!
