Every month my To-Be-Read pile grows to frightening new heights thanks to the host of shiny new books that release each week. And as we head into the summery month of June, we’re all surely in need of new reading material for afternoons in the park and days spent on the beach. So to help you find your next read, I’ve curated a collection of June YA releases you and I absolutely need to read. Take a look:
First up, we have Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern, which releases June 3. In this John Green meets Rainbow Rowell YA contemporary, Amy, who has cerebral palsy, and Will, who has OCD, find their lives unexpectedly entwined as they navigate life, school and first love. I’m so excited to see how Cammie portrays these two characters, especially Amy because one of my best friends has cerebral palsy.
Next up is Kat Rosenfield’s Inland, which I recently read and loved! It’s a chilling and beautifully written story about family secrets, self-awareness and mental illness, complete with a dash of fantasy to steer readers in a hundred different directions. Luckily, you don’t have to wait too long since the book releases on June 12!
Also releasing on the 12th is The Merciless by Danielle Vega. I’m not a fan of horror or creepy suspense (murderous clowns are my worst nightmare), but this spine-tingling debut about a group of teens performing exorcisms and the girl who desperately wants to escape their murderous methods sounds too good to shy away from.
The following week, Sarah Tregay’s Fan Art comes out and is sure to be every bit as charming as it sounds. Jamie Peterson is secretly in love with his best friend, Mason. But when the girls in his art class take it upon themselves to help get Jamie and Mason together, Jamie must decide if telling Mason the truth is worth the potential damage it could cause. Gay YA is always a “yay” for this reader!
Last, but certainly not least, is Dahlia Adler’s Behind the Scenes, which is available on June 24. In this exciting debut, Ally Duncan is struggling to pay her dad’s medical bills, so she signs up to be the on-set assistant for Vanessa, Ally’s best friend who also happens to be Hollywood’s new favorite star. And as Ally grows closer with Liam, Vanessa’s hot co-star, things start looking up. But when Vanessa and Liam are forced to date for publicity, Ally has to decide which role she wants to play.
Don’t those all sound glorious? Seriously. After you book-drool a bit and add these upcoming releases to your TBR lists, be sure to head over to our Everything YA page for more Young Adult books, authors and buzz!
