BY , JANUARY 28, 2011 | PERMALINK

Looking to liven up your weekend? Have you ever considered fighting crime? We have two suggestions for manga reads that will inspire you to stop criminals in their tracks!

Our first suggestion is Black Butler Volume 2. Yana Toboso's Ciel Phantomhive comes to London to discover the serial killer who has the Ton terrified. Fear is gripping the city, but things are looking up now that Ciel and his butler are on the case. RT Reviewer Emilee Dellinger praised this Victorian-era mystery for its beautiful artwork.

But if you are looking for a more hands-on approach to stopping criminals, our second suggestion is Hero Tales Volume 3. Hiromu Arakawa and Huang Jin Zhou's series installment thrilled Emilee who says, "The story is action packed and will keep readers on the edge of their seats." The tale is one of political intrigue but includes lots of action as this gang of heroes fight for their country's future.

5 Questions For The Human Target

BY Morgan Doremus, NOVEMBER 17, 2010 | PERMALINK

Christopher Chance, aka the Human Target, first appeared in comic books in 1972. An assassin turned bodyguard, Chance puts himself into dangerous situations to protect the real target. Last year Fox debuted the Human Target television show staring Fringe regular Mark Valley. This week I caught up with Mark to ask him what it is like to play a comic book hero.

***

How is the Human Target TV show different from the comic book?

In the comic book Chance insinuated himself into peoples lives. He would impersonate the target, but instead of taking over their lives, I just get close to the target by acting like someone that could be in their lives - a coworker, translator or driver. I’m really glad I don’t have to do the whole impersonation thing with masks and makeup.

What is your favorite part of the role?

Well, Chance is not a very good actor and I’m having fun with that – he can’t move into the character he is playing with much facility. That and on Fringe I spent a lot of time in a coma so walking around and talking to people is exciting and I just love action. It appeals to the kid in me.

A Look Inside the Illustrated World of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

BY Morgan Doremus, OCTOBER 12, 2010 | PERMALINK

Artist Georges Jeanty has illustrated several well-known superheroes including the Green Lantern and Superman. But then in 2007 his career took a turn toward the supernatural when Joss Whedon picked him to illustrate the Buffy the Vampire comic books. The most recent collaboration Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight Volume 7: Twilight was released just last week. I met up with Georges at New York Comic Con to ask him about his work on the continuation of the Buffy series.

So you were hand picked by Joss Whedon for the Buffy comics. How did Whedon know you?
Joss is a big comic book fan, so he knew illustrators. He remembered a character I worked on years and years ago - Bishop from X-man - and I got put on his list of people for his comic. So I got this call out of the blue that Joss wanted to work with me. I didn't believe it. I couldn't believe it was him. I was like, if he wants me, then he can get a hold of me. So then I got this email from Joss telling me about the project.
