Book your hotel reservation for the 2014 RT Booklovers Convention now!
If you are attending the next RT Convention, which will take place from May 14-18, 2014, you can officially start planning because rooms at the convention hotel, the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street, are ready to be reserved.
Drastically slashed prices for RT Conventioneers, rooms start at just $129 a night during the convention. This beautiful hotel has all the amenities and is just blocks away from the famed Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. And best of all, during the RT Convention, the hotel will be filled with bestselling and fan favorite authors who will be participating in workshops, parties and book signings. We are excited to announce that Sylvia Day, Lisa Kleypas, Charlaine Harris, Marjorie M. Liu and many, many more authors will be joining us in NOLA!
Just when you thought it was safe to hang out with Samhain authors, they go and plan an event full of predators. This year at the RT Booklovers Convention, the publisher's evening party was safari themed. Fans and authors mingled through a jungle oasis as Samhain books and e-readers were given away. Yet despite the amazing prizes, great food and drinks, our favorite part of the night were the costumes! Dangerous cats roamed with zebras, a panther or two hung with exotic birds. And while there were no elephants to be found, the unique ensembles we did encounter left an impression. Here are a few of our favorites:
A 'Coalition' of cheetahs (and other assorted cats)
A 'Dazzle' of zebras
A 'Nest' of snakes
A 'Tower' of giraffes
Here at RT, we love virgins — RT Booklovers Convention virgins, that is. There's nothing more exciting than watching a newbie experience their first RT Con, whether it be a fan, author or industry pro. Today we hear from Total-E-Bound's Editor In Chief, Stacey Birkel, who attended her first RT Convention this year in Kansas City. She gives us a brief recap of her week and shares some of her favorite moments.
RT — it's the big Kahuna of Romance cons and for good reason. Between the publisher representation and the attendance, it definitely takes top prize. This year, I finally had the perfect excuse to go — my day job as EIC of Total-E-Bound Publishing.
Yes, I was a virgin!
Wednesday started out with setting up our table in Club RT. Think of it as a sort of market slash meet-n-greet. It was great getting to talk to the convention goers in a more relaxed atmosphere. There are also panels and spotlights going on all day, every day, and fun events at night, like a disco party! We hustled and danced to a rather eclectic mix of music. Energy was high and lots of people really enjoyed dressing the part.

As Young Adult books become more popular, an increasing number of authors are entering the balancing game that is YA. Writers must please the raging hormones of their readers while understanding the responsibility they have to younger readers and managing the expectations of their parents. At the recent RT Booklovers Convention in Kansas City, authors Josephine Angelini, Gayle Forman, Cynthia Hand, Tara Hudson, and Aprilynne Pike held a panel to discuss trends, attitudes, and the future of the genre.

What's your favorite part of RT Convention? Seeing friends you only see a few times a year? Meeting authors? Free books? The parties? Like many RT Con attendees, I love all of those things. But by far my favorite part of Con is planning my outfits — especially my shoes (it also doesn't hurt that RT editors Regina, Liz and I are all the same shoe size). I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy at least one pair of new heels for Convention, and it looks like many of the women at RT Con this year had the same idea. I was on full alert, snapping shoe photos (I apologize for the poor quality iPhone shots) and asking Convention goers to share pictures of any fancy footwear their spotted. And so I bring you my favorite shoes from the 2013 RT Convention:
Karina Cooper sported some outrageous, amazing zombie heels
A classy pair of black t-strap pumps
Pink snake print peeptoes paired with jeans? Awesome
While the Mr. Romance competition at the RT Booklovers Convention has been retired, that doesn't mean you'll notice a lack of cover models at RT. This year, veteran model CJ Hollenbach celebrated 20 glorious years in the business with RT's Men of Romance party, which consisted of a roast of CJ done by fellow cover models and former Mr. Romance contestants. The event started with dinner and a show as cover models danced to the song "Men in Tights" from the film Robin Hood: Men in Tights. And yes, these men were in tights. Fond memories of CJ's various covers and career highlights were shared, with plenty of jabs and jokes from the models. Additionally, a slideshow was prepared for the event and we're bringing it to you today for those interested in seeing how far CJ Hollenbach has come. So for those who couldn't make it — or for those who did and want to look back — here are some highlights from the 2013 RT Convention's Men of Romance party.

During the third annual Teen Day at the RT Booklovers Convention, readers enjoyed an entire day filled with authors, books and plenty of excitement. First young readers got a chance to buy books and get autographs in YA Alley at the Giant Book Fair. Then, attendees got to hear from authors during a series of panels, which included author speed reading, where authors read brief excerpts from their upcoming releases, and author speed dating, where fans sat and tables and authors rotated, spending some quality time with each group. Finally fans and authors headed off to the fabulous Teen Day Party. But if you couldn’t join us in Kansas City, today we bring you a peek inside the action with some photos of the fun that was had.
A busy YA Alley packed with readers and authors
Authors were on hand to sign books and chat with fans, including Jeri Smith-Ready
Richelle Mead had a long line of fans patiently waiting to get books signed
This year’s convention was record breaking. We had the most walk-ins, the most pre-registered full program attendees, over 125 workshops and a visit from the one and only E.L. James. Our week was full of interesting workshops, amazing events and evening parties that will live on in our memories. It won't be long before we dive into planning next year’s convention in New Orleans, (you can already submit a workshop proposal for RT 2014). But first, enjoy this look back at some of the highlights of this year’s event!
The erotic romance genre is exploding with the serialization of books and stories headed to the big screen. However, writing erotic romance is not simply throwing together some sexy-times. To be a truly compelling erotica writer, one needs to deliver something different while providing emotional, sensual stories. In the "How to Ride the New Erotic Romance Wave" workshop at the RT Booklovers Convention last week, bestselling authors Eden Bradley (aka Eve Berlin), Jaci Burton, Lauren Dane and Sylvia Day and moderator Sharon Page explained the ‘New Wave’ of erotic romances and what it takes to satisfy readers.
