RT Booklovers Convention 2013: Reinventing the Modern-Day Romeo

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, MAY 01, 2013 | PERMALINK

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Okay, okay. So Shakespeare’s play ends in tragedy, but that hasn’t stopped generations of women hunting for their personal “Romeo.” And one place an amazing hero can always be found in between the covers of a romance novel.

But the young, forbidden hero of Shakespeare’s time has recently made way for all different types of love interests. From historical highlander hunks to fanged, fearsome vamps, no character is off limits in the imagination of a romance author.

However, many readers forgo the fantasy of paranormal and mystery of the past in order to stay in modern times to read all about a contemporary hottie. And at this year's RT Booklovers Convention we couldn’t leave out the realistic heroes that make us swoon, so today romance authors Victoria Dahl, Shannon Stacey, Erin McCarthy, Beth Ciotta, along with moderator Louisa Edwards and editor Sarah Frantz, sat down to discuss how they go about “Reinventing The Modern-Day Romeo.”

THE APPEAL OF THE CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE HERO

In today’s panel at the RT Booklovers Convention, “Beyond Giggles and Screams”, five bestselling authors discussed where their work falls into the paranormal spectrum and how aspiring authors can infuse their stories wtih thrills, chills or laughter — or maybe all three!

2013 RT Convention Guide: Authors Find Success At Pitch-A-Palooza

BY Elissa Petruzzi, APRIL 17, 2013 | PERMALINK

For aspiring authors, attending a writer’s convention can be nerve wracking. You’ve spent your hard-earned money to attend, and you need to make the most of these few days. If you’re brave enough, you’re going to post up at the bar and chat up that agent you’ve been stalking — er, following — on Twitter. You’ve scored an appointment with an editor you have your eye on, and your elevator pitch is all ready to go in case someone asks you — you know, in an elevator — what your book is about.

But at RT’s upcoming convention in Kansas City, we have another way to help you stack the deck. On Friday, May 3 from 12:15 - 1:15 p.m., we’ll be hosting Pitch-A-Palooza!

Writers pitching their stories at RT's 2012 Pitch-A-Palooza

What’s Pitch-A-Palooza, you ask? Pitch-A-Palooza is the fun, fast way to pitch a whole host of editors and agents, in three-minute intervals.

That’s right, three minutes. Sit in front of the agent or editor you’ve got your eye on, introduce yourself, sell your elevator pitch and, blammo! Done. All that’s left to do is move to your next target and line up again to wow them with your awesomeness.
