Video Interview: Ruthie Knox

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, JUNE 10, 2013 | PERMALINK

At this year's RT Convention, RT's Morgan got a chance to catch up with contemporary romance author Ruthie Knox. They discussed Ruthie's small town romantic comedy series, Camelot. The fourth in the series, Flirting with Disaster, releases today and is a must-read for contemporary romance fans — featuring a heroine who has had her heart broken before and a "loveably broken" hero. Plus, the author shares how the series started "accidentally" with an inappropriate thoughts about Justin Timberlake — she meant to write a rock star lead, only to have a secondary character make himself into a hero too good to pass up!

Julie Rowe Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of Her WWI Historical Romance

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, JUNE 05, 2013 | PERMALINK

In our June issue, author Julie Rowe relayed astounding stories of women working as nurses during World War I. These heroic ladies have not only helped inspire new generations of women to join the medical field, but they also gave Julie Rowe the idea for her historical War Girls series, the latest of which, "Enticing the Spymaster," releases this month. Today Rowe shares a tale about a real life nurse that helped heal injured soldiers while, at the same time, spying on the enemy for Britain!

In the June issue of RT, in my Behind the Scenes article, "A Call To Arms: Nurse Heroines of the First World War," I talked about several nurses whose duties took them into danger and under fire. These nurses persevered despite the often dirty, cold and wet conditions to treat, comfort and protect the wounded. In particular, I talked about nurse Edith Cavell, who was executed by the German military for treason. But Edith didn’t work alone. In fact, one of her senior nurses would perform an act of espionage.

In The Best Intentions, Miles Prescott, the widowed Earl of Strickland, has no intention of re-marrying for love, no matter what matchmaking schemes his sister hatches. So when she announces her forthcoming visit to his country estate in the company of a young debutante and her widowed sister, he is quick to make his position clear. His new guests, however, are not at all what he expects. It is the widowed Lady Abingdon who is the society beauty, while Miss Hannah Fairbanks has far better things to do with her time. Architecture fascinates her, especially old architecture like that of the ancient Saxon church near the earls estate. And now the earl finds himself on the horns of a dilemma will he choose the suitable widow or follow his heart?

Amazon's Kindle Worlds Allows Fan Fiction Writers To (Legally) Sell Their Work

BY Cyndy Aleo, MAY 22, 2013 | PERMALINK

Amazon has some big news for fan fiction authors and readers alike this morning, announcing the launch of Kindle Worlds.

The e-commerce company's latest project is an online platform for fan fiction authors (writers who use characters or settings created by someone other then themselves) to publish — and sell — their creations. On Kindle Worlds, these new works will be licensed, with profits shared by the fan fiction authors and original creators.

The launch is specific to certain fandoms — Warner Brothers Television Group's Alloy Entertainment division's Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, and Pretty Little Liars. While these franchises are all teen focused, Amazon anticipates adding more licenses "soon" so perhaps we will get adult centered worlds.

RT Booklovers Convention 2013: Authors And Readers Go Wild At The Samhain Safari Bash

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, MAY 21, 2013 | PERMALINK

Just when you thought it was safe to hang out with Samhain authors, they go and plan an event full of predators. This year at the RT Booklovers Convention, the publisher's evening party was safari themed. Fans and authors mingled through a jungle oasis as Samhain books and e-readers were given away. Yet despite the amazing prizes, great food and drinks, our favorite part of the night were the costumes! Dangerous cats roamed with zebras, a panther or two hung with exotic birds. And while there were no elephants to be found, the unique ensembles we did encounter left an impression. Here are a few of our favorites:

A 'Coalition' of cheetahs (and other assorted cats)

A 'Dazzle' of zebras

A 'Nest' of snakes

A 'Tower' of giraffes
