RT Booklovers Convention 2011: Wooing The Masses With E-Book Marketing

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, APRIL 07, 2011 | PERMALINK

At this morning’s E-Book Marketing Panel “Wooing the Masses" e-book authors from across the genres shared their tips on effective e-marketing. The authors offering advice were Eden Bradley, Mari Carr, Kristen Painter and Jayne Rylon.

During the panel, each author discussed the different things they have done to market themselves and what they found most effective. Mari Carr, who recently co-authored the erotic e-book Northern Exposure with Jane Rylon, said that she felt that she was lucky to find another writer whose voice worked so well with hers. By having a co-author, the writers were able to split both the costs of promotion as well as the workload. Mari shared that they chose to focus their recent marketing efforts on connecting to readers using social media. For example they used Twitter to promote 140 character book quotes and hosted an excerpt party on Facebook.

Meet Rebecca Royce's Westervelt Wolves

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, MARCH 24, 2011 | PERMALINK

Rebecca Royce looks back at the evolution of her popular paranormal series about shapeshifters The Westervelt Wolves. Learn how inspiration for this furry clan struck the author like a bolt of lightening, and what fans can expect next.

Welcome to Westervelt!

Let me start out by saying that I am so unbelievable excited to be here today blogging about my series: The Westervelt Wolves. Thank you so much for having me!

The Westervelt Wolves started with the book Her Wolf. It is the story of Tristan and Ashlee and how their love story began the struggle of the Westervelt Wolves to reclaim their lives from the horror their father’s evil plots pushed upon them. Her Wolf came to me one day when I was at the zoo with my kids. I looked at the wolf pen and, since I am a fan of all things paranormal romance, I thought: “what if one of these wolves was not a wolf but a wolf-shifter trapped in that cage?”

BY Dear Jane, FEBRUARY 17, 2011 | PERMALINK

Dear Jane: I was wondering if it would be possible for you to do a write up about what devices can download from each of these companies and what apps you would need to use. I know that on the Borders site they ask you to download the free Borders eBook app but I'm not sure if that is for a laptop, iPad, Kindle, etc. Same with Amazon and B&N. - M

Dear M: If you are reading on a dedicated e-book reader like the Kindle, nook, Sony, or Kobo, these devices do not any apps to be downloaded in order to read an e-book. In fact, these devices won't allow you to add new apps.* For a laptop or desktop, you have the following choices. I am just listing the programs with my recommendations. Over the next few weeks, I will do a mini rundown of each set of programs as it is too much for one post.

Be A Part Of The Novel: Live - UPDATED!

BY Whitney Sullivan, JANUARY 27, 2011 | PERMALINK

The sensational folks behind The Novel: Live (thirty six authors, six days, one co-written novel) are offering us the chance to get involved — again.

Back in October thirty six authors — including such big names as Julia Quinn, Elizabeth George, Deb Caletti and Susan Wiggs — worked together to create a single novel. They did this over the course of six days, writing in front of an audience and taking their suggestions, to raise money for literacy. Amazing, right? That line-up impressive as someone who doesn't even like speaking in public I can't imagine being able to put together an entire story in front of an audience!

The resulting novel from this charity event will be e-published by Open Road Media this May. And I am positively rabid to get my hands on this story, I mean, look at the authors involved. But before the book can hit digital bookshelves, these authors need our help with one more thing ... naming the book.

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, JANUARY 26, 2011 | PERMALINK

Reading romance is all about getting a glimpse into exciting times and new worlds and there is nothing more adventurous than the re-imagined Victorian-era tales of Steampunk fiction. To keep up with the new sub-genre, RT's Morgan interviewed Mari Fee, Sahara Kelly and Tilda Booth, authors who have Steampunk e-novellas from Samahin Publishing's Silk, Steel and Steam series.

Morgan Doremus: Steampunk is still a relatively new sub-genre in the paranormal/fantasy category. Can each of you define what you see Steampunk as and how your story fits into the genre?
