Take A Coffee Break With Caris Roane

Spend a few moments talking vampires with this paranormal author ...

Hi, Everyone! Caris Roane here!

I must confess this is absolutely one of my favorite things—talking about paranormal romance and my love of vampires. First, I have to thank the writers-who-have-gone-before for inspiring me to write my own vamp series: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, Lara Adrian and J.R. Ward to name a few. Kresley Cole has also written one of my fav vamps in Sebastian! Also, Laurell K. Hamilton has done a brilliant job with her vampires and if you’ve caught any of my other blogs you know I’m a serious Jean-Claude fan!

But like any writer, I wanted to put my own twist on the vamp mythos, drawing from all the old tales and many of the new. The main thing I’ve done differently is that my warrior vampires have wings, full-blown, god-like, angel-like wings and man do they have power, lots of it; telepathy, outrageous physical prowess, the ability to dematerialize themselves and anything else they want to send from one place to another. They can even penetrate and destroy the mind of the enemy. They wield long swords and daggers and best of all, they do battle in black leather kilts! Now there’s a couple of archetypes to combine: the sexy Scottish Highlander and the vampire! I think when I put my Guardians Of Ascension series together, I just went wild.

The series is full of passion as well and includes an innovative use of fangs, deep-mind engagement, and of course the unique personalities of the couples involved. Since I’m already writing Book #4, Born of Ashes, I can tell you that the difference in the passionate encounters from book to book and couple to couple has been one of the most surprising aspects of the series. Of course it makes sense. Every couple is different in every way, so why wouldn’t the passion be different? It’s also a blast to write.

If you have a chance to comment on the blog, tell me why you like to read vampire novels. I’d love to hear from you.
