Teen Day Extravaganza - 2014 RT Convention

Teen Day is one of the most highly anticipated events at the RT Convention and this year's YA extravaganza was no exception! With a host of exciting events like Author Speed Reading, Stump the Author and, of course, the megafun Teen Day Party, we had tons of fun from morning til night! The day began with the Giant Book Fair, which featured YA Alley — basically a YA booklover's dream. Authors like Kelley Armstrong, Kiera Cass and Gayle Forman signed book after book and met with their most devoted fans. This year, we added New Adult Lane, which bridged the YA and adult sections of the book fair.

Following the book fair, YA authors took off for their various panels. This year, we hosted Author Speed Reading, where authors read short excerpts from their books. There were even official time keepers to ensure they didn't go over the time limit! There was also the Interactive YA Writing Panel, where authors shared their writing processes and divulged their secret writing tips! The Stump the Author event was also a fun event where audience members tried to stump the panel of authors with questions about their own books.

One of the highlights of the day was Gayle Forman's From Publication to Adaptation to Production discussion, where she discussed the upcoming film based on her novel, If I Stay. Melissa Marr moderated the session and asked Gayle about what it was like seeing her book come to life. Gayle stressed that "translated" is a better term than "adapted," and also discussed how the book had been optioned before it was published and that it was originally slated with Summit Entertainment with Catherine Hardwicke attached to direct and Dakota Fanning to star. The author also revealed she asked to be an executive producer of the film. The real treat of the event came when Gayle introduced a special guest — Liana Liberato, who portrays best friend Kim in the film. Liberato talked about how she and co-star Chloe Grace Moretz had slumber parties and went to local concerts with Jamie Buckley. Fans loved hearing from Liberato and their enthusiasm reached new heights!

Teens collected books and mingled with friends at the Teen Day party

The last event of the day was the highly anticipated Teen Day Party, which was awesome! All the YA authors mingled with eager teens looking to meet and chat up their favorite authors. Teens also participated in a scavenger hunt to win an Epic Reads tote bag! With a DJ playing all the hottest tunes, a photobooth and exciting goodie bags, it's safe to say the Teen Day Party was a success! There was also a goodie room where attendees could grab even more drool-worthy books and swag! To see even more photos, visit our Teen Day Facebook page!
