There was good food, awesome music and amazing giveaways at the second annual Teen Day party. All over the room teens were trading the new reads that were tucked in their goody bags, snagging authors to sign books and of course, making new friends. At the party in addition to the giveaway bags that were stuffed to overflowing, there were also several scavenger hunts, a makeup station and, of course, authors. If you weren’t able to join us at the event, here’s a snapshot of what went on!
Everywhere you looked fans were chatting about the books we all love. Teens came from miles away to celebrate our second annual teen day. One young reader and her mother took an 11-hour train trip to join us in Chicago. And locals were out in full force too.
The room was high-energy as readers and authors mixed. YA fan Chelsea summed up the mood in the room perfectly when she said that her favorite part of the event was getting to talk to authors because, as she said it, “They are like rockstars!”
And what did some lucky readers learn about the books that they love (and what’s ahead for some of their favorite authors)? Well, there’s no predicting what a YA author will say next, that’s for sure!
When we got to the party many readers were still buzzing about getting to hear an excerpt of Insurgent, the much anticipated series second in Veronica Roth’s dystopian series that is set in a futuristic Chicago. Chi-town native teen (and blogger) Nori said that hearing Veronica Roth read was the highlight of her day. When a fan asked the popular author was asked what she would do after writing the third and final book in the Divergent trilogy, she played it coy saying “I’m a sci fi fantasy geek” but finally revealed that even she doesn’t know what’s coming next.
More than a few readers wanted to know if Cinda William Chima’s Seventh Realm trilogy really will have a fourth book — it will!
A few very lucky fans, like Katie and Jazmin, were over the moon to win ARCs of Colleen Houck’s Tiger’s Destiny before the book hits stores in September. And doesn’t that just put the advanced in Advanced Reader Copy?
Readers weren’t the only ones getting friendly, several authors who had their own “fan girl” moments, like Cynthia Hand who said that she loved getting to meet fellow author Carrie Ryan and get a signed book. (Authors, they are just like us!)
