A Welcome Note From Carol Stacy, Publisher & Internet Director of RT BOOK REVIEWS
Welcome to the new redesigned and super-expanded RTBOOKREVIEWS.COM — the ultimate destination for book lovers!
After many months of planning, designing and lots of blood, sweat and tears, we are delighted to finally launch the site and share with you our wonderful labor of love.
A HUGE THANK-YOU goes out to our web team: Morgan Doremus, a relentless warrior who rose above all challenges to remain focused on her vision for the new site and to finally see it realized. Morgan will be heading the RT Daily Blog as well as creating the content for the entire website. Our amazing web assistant editor, Whitney Kate Sullivan, has been an invaluable partner in this site's creation, and together this dynamic duo worked tirelessly to meet our launch deadline. You go, girls!
Our webmaster, Karl Kablisk, has brought his techie expertise to the mix and helped resolve the endless technical issues that go with putting together a huge undertaking like this.
I could not be more proud of the new site and the team that helped put it together, including all of the RT editors as well as our president, Kenneth Rubin. Bravo to all!
There are so many new features on the new site that I know you will love. The RT Daily Blog will break news as well as offer a string of regular scheduled interviews, guest bloggers and lots of giveaways.
We are very excited about our genre-specific mini-sites that will send you to Everything Romance, Everything Mystery, Everything Paranormal and Everything Young Adult. There is also a Genre Spotlight page that highlights Mainstream, Inspirational, Romantic Suspense, Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Erotica. Blog entries will be coming in fast and furiously so look for content to build daily.
You will also find several other microsites, including one for aspiring authors, one for published authors, one for books, one for booksellers, one for convention and plenty more!
You will now be able to write your own reviews and rate the books on the site — ALL 40,000! Each review you write will automatically enter you in a drawing to win an RT Convention registration for Los Angeles, April 6-10, 2011. So enter frequently and often. The more you enter, the more chances you will have to win!!
Our FIND IT! search function (at the top right-had corner of every page) is phenomenal and quite robust — so much so that you may get too much information in your results, especially in the keyword results. To get a more refined result, PLEASE USE QUOTATION MARKS before and after a name you are searching for or a title or a phrase. Now, if you do not remember the book title or the author who wrote it, you can search a character’s name, a fictional town, a memorable phrase or any other criteria to get a result. JUST BE SURE TO PUT QUOTATION MARKS around the word or words you are searching for.
If it’s a book you want, and you know the author’s name, go to the Advanced Author Search and check out the author’s page. There you will get a list of all books by that author that have been reviewed by RT BOOK REVIEWS. On the author’s page you will be able to search by star rating, newest or oldest titles and alphabetically.
Our ADVANCE SEARCH (which is still a work in progress, so please be patient!) will allow you to search by month, year, star rating, genre and subgenres. All of the reviews on the site may be accessed here.
LOG IN FOR THE SITE— To participate in any of the interactive features on the website, you will have to log in. All of your user names and passwords have been transferred over, so they should work. As with the old site, only subscribers will be able to access the latest reviews. New visitors will have to register either as a subscriber with your subscriber number or as a non-subscriber. The registration page will prompt you.
LOG IN FOR THE FORUMS— Even if you are logged in on the site, you will have to log in separately for the forums but you will be able to use the same user name and password for both. And you only have to log in once and click the box that says "log me in every time I return".
The reason for the two log-ins is because our new content management system does not communicate with our current forums. We had a choice to make, which was to wipe out all of the forums and start clean in order to have only one log-in OR keep the current forum system with all of the current entries and
have visitors log in twice.
We decided the latter would best serve our visitors, and the double log-in is a one-time thing, so it should not be an inconvenience for future visits.
It will probably be a few weeks until everything is working 100 percent, so we hope you will bear with us during the transition.
There is so much more to explore on the site, so have fun and please report any glitches to Karl, our webmaster, (at webmaster@RTBookReviews.com) and we will do all we can to fix them as soon as possible.
In the meantime have fun,
Publisher & Internet Director
