Spoiled: Maggie Stiefvater On Her New Raven Cycle Series Starter The Raven Boys

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, MARCH 14, 2012 | PERMALINK

Spoiled shares a look at the books you can't wait to read, long before they hit stores. Today Young Adult author Maggie Stiefvater gives RT readers a peek inside her new Raven Cycle series before the first book, The Raven Boys, releases in September. Find out how heroine, Blue, evolved and what role the dire prophesy, “if she kisses her true love, he will die” plays in her life!

***

As someone who has spent the last five years painstakingly building a reputation of writing love stories, it seems a little insane that my new series revolves around a girl who can’t kiss her true love — or anyone else, really. But in The Raven Boys, the first book in the four-book Raven Cycle, that’s what Blue Sargent has grown up knowing about herself. As the daughter of a small-town psychic, she has grown up surrounded by clairvoyants. In several different ways — tarot cards, palm reading, scrying — they’ve read her fortune, and all have come to the same conclusion: if Blue kisses her true love, he’ll die.

Big Names In Short Stories - Authors Writing Series And Full Length Romance

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, MARCH 14, 2012 | PERMALINK

Many beloved authors get their start writing the shorter format series romances. Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich and Jennifer Crusie are just a few of the writers that first left their mark on readers’ hearts in bite-sized stories. But for some of these storytellers, even after they’ve found success writing longer, stand-alone books (which are also sometimes known as single title works) they keep coming back to their series romance roots. And who can blame them? These novels are quick, fun romps at affordable prices. Today we’re taking a look at a few of the authors who are writing in both format and often going above and beyond to create stories of both lengths that deserve to be on your keeper shelf!

Trend: Meet Minerva

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, MARCH 13, 2012 | PERMALINK

Minerva. So, the name might not sound like it belongs to a woman who is fearless in the pursuit of her happily ever after (aka the kind of heroine that readers want to meet), but recently there’s been a sharp spike in the number of Minerva-named heroines in romance. And last year alone, 2011 treated readers to not one but two fantastic leading ladies who made this old fashioned name new again. And with two more newly minted Minerva’s about to hit shelves in the next month, we round up the Minervas of historical romance, including two honorary Minervas, for a look at the heroines who have been blessed with this name that is rapidly growing in popularity.

Since series starter Dragon Bound, Harrison has released three additional full-length novels and one novella — all featuring different unexpected creatures. Today we take a metaphorical ride through the Wyrlife Preserve that is Harrison’s body of work thus far, just in time for the release of the fourth novel in the Elder Races series, Oracle’s Moon.
