ThrillerFest '17: Karin Slaughter Interview & Signed Book Giveaway

It's no secret that here at RT, we're HUGE fans of Karin Slaughter. She received our Career Achievement award for her work in the suspense genre at RT17, and stole the show with her wit and charm — so we knew we had to attend her feature panel with Lisa Gardner at ThrillerFest '17. Plus, we've been keeping a signed copy of The Kept Woman hidden away for a rainy day, and now it's time to let one of our readers get their hands on it!
Lisa Gardner won the International Thriller Writers' 2016 Silver Bullet Award for her outstanding work in the genre, and 2011 Silver Bullet recipient Karin Slaughter was on hand to interview her in a premiere panel for the convention. In reality, it turned into a great back and forth between two friends — reminiscing on their friendship, their place as women in the thriller genre, and speaking about their most recent releases.
Gardner set the tone for the panel with the story of how Slaughter had saved her life — they had been out to dinner together when Gardner started having an allergic reaction to her food.
"She could have walked away, and said, that's the death of Lisa Gardner, she stuffed her face full of guacamole," Gardner recalled. "Instead she took me home and gave me a Benadryl."
"I made her promise to never publish on the same day as me before I gave it to her, though," Slaughter joked.
Slaughter moved on to ask about Gardner's previous life as a romantic suspense author, writing under the pen name of Alicia Scott. "So ... why did you give up on love?" Slaughter asked.
"I got married," Gardner replied, causing a wave of laughter across the crowd. The two joked more before getting serious, lauding the efforts of romance authors, and praising the readers that make up Romancelandia — who often cross over into the land of thrillers, mysteries and suspense (oh my!).
Gardner then spoke about her latest entry on her FBI Profiler series, Right Behind You, while Slaughter talked about her new standalone book, The Good Daughter (which you can read an excerpt of in the VIP Salon!). The two compared the difference between writing with reoccurring characters versus one off characters, and shared laughs with the audience over Gardner's abundant use of curse words in her novels.
You can watch the rest of the interview on Karin Slaughter's Facebook page, where some topics got a little too adult for us to repeat in a blog post.
Now that you've most definitely been slaughtered (excuse the pun) by Slaughter and Gardner's snark and wit, you'll surely want to know how to get your hands on a signed copy of The Kept Woman. The eighth book in Slaughter's Will Trent series follows the Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent as his newest case tangles his past and the most popular man in Atlanta.
