2015 Book Hankerings: Mystery

Sure, we've all got a lot to look forward to, with the holidays so near. Presents! Cookies! New Year's! But as vigilant bibliophiles, we're also looking further ahead: to what great books 2015 will bring us! All this week the RT team will be presenting you with our most-wished-for titles of the new year. Today, we’re ogling 2015 mystery releases!

The Unquiet Dead by Ausma Zehanat Khan

Want to try out a new mystery author? By all accounts, Khan’s debut is haunting and intricate. When a man falls from the Bluffs, his identity as a former war criminal is revealed. Detective Rachel Getty must uncover ties to the Srebrenica massacre of 1995, and secrets hidden for years. Our reviewer called this one, “rich and stunning.”

Obsession in Death by J.D. Robb

We mean, this series is probably on your auto-buy list too, right? The 40th — yes, fortieth, la Nora is one busy lady — In Death title sees Eve as the object of a murderer’s obsession.

Do Not Disturb by A.R. Torre

You already know that the RT editors flipped for Alessandra Torre’s The Girl in 6E, so it’s understandable that we’ve got book two on our lists, with stars and hearts around the title. Details are scant, except for this:

Star light. Star bright.
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might.
Not kill those who my heart holds tight.

Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton

Sharon Bolton’s mysteries are dark, twisty and impeccably plotted. We are completely addicted to her Lacey Flint series (which she published as SJ Bolton), and are excited to try this new setting: the Falkland Islands, where children are going missing. Her stories are unflinching, so we’ll read this with all the lights on. And we won’t complain too much about missing out on Lacey and the turquoise-eyed Joesbury.

Veiled by Karina Halle
(Winter 2015)

A spin-off from the Experiment in Terror series, little sister Ada Palomino (aka Little Fifteen) is getting her own books! Set to publish in late 2015 — we know — Halle promises “sex and swearing and scares.” So, you know, count us in.

And there you have it! Check out all the books we’re hankering for in 2015 here, and keep us company while we wait!
