Black’s latest brings readers back into the world of the Coltons of Red Ridge with this fifth book in the series. It is an entertaining blend of action and romance all contained within a tension-filled, engaging plot. Danica is a mixture of both strength and vulnerability that makes her an appealing character. Readers will fall in love with the sexy, tough, resilient alpha hero in Shane. The conflict between Shane and Danica is as strong and heated as the chemistry that lies between them. Steady pacing, genuine, familiar characters, an endearing, intuitive search dog and dangerous scenarios make this an exciting read.

P.I. Shane Colton is out walking his K-9 partner, Welsh corgi Stumps, one evening when they come upon fallen dog trainer Danica Gage behind the K9 Training Center where she works. It is soon discovered that Nico, one of the Training Center’s fully trained protection dogs, has been stolen. Shane is on the case, though he doesn’t want anything to do with Danica — their families have been feuding for years. Danica knows Shane has a chip on his shoulder because of some bad history and it doesn’t help that she’s a Gage. Shane has no interest in being cordial to Danica, yet he finds himself caring about her whenever he is around her. They are forced to deal with each other as they both work to find out who stole Nico. As the danger heightens for Danica, unexpected feelings grow stronger between her and Shane.
