Image of A Fragile Hope

What a beautiful, thoughtful, contemplative novel! Ruchti's storytelling is incomparable. The journeys the characters experience are gut-wrenching, but so cathartic and life-changing in the end. A novel told mostly in the head of one character can be tricky to pull off, but Ruchti does it with ease and it helps the reader to feel deeper for what the characters are experiencing. This is everything readers have come to expect from this author's superlative novels.

Josiah Chamberlain is a marriage expert, well-known for writing and speaking on the subject. Yet his marriage with Karin is faltering and he doesn't even seem to notice what is happening — until it is almost too late. Josiah is forced to look at every aspect of his marriage, as well as his relationship with God, to figure out exactly what must change. Yet, what is necessary is not always easy, and it takes dire circumstances to bring Josiah to his knees and his senses. (ABINGDON, Apr., 320 pp., $14.99)
