Break out the snacks and settle back, for ultra-talented Estep is back with the next spine-chilling chapter in the life and death adventures of assassin extraordinaire Gin Blanco (aka the Spider)! Estep is now self-publishing her Elemental Assassin series, which means there will be plenty more thrills and chills coming. Gin tried to retire from the assassination business to just serve BBQ at her restaurant, the Pork Pit, but the discovery that her family had been murdered at the behest of the mysterious crime syndicate known as the “Circle,” has propelled Gin into a mission to destroy them. Gin is a very complicated individual whose past actions haunt her despite the knowledge that, in many instances, she had very little choice. This is book 17 in this phenomenal series, yet Estep has managed to keep the plots intriguing and readers completely invested in these amazing characters, their relationships and all their varying foibles.

Gin and her foster brother, Finn Lane, are out having a lovely dinner with Finn’s boss, Stuart Mosley, the President of First Trust Bank. Mosley is currently working on a charitable auction of now deceased mob boss Mab Monroe’s art collection. As they are leaving the restaurant, a kidnapping attempt is made on Mosley, which is foiled by Gin and Finn. But who ordered it and why? When Gin learns that the auction is being held at the estate of the late vampire Amelia Eaton, she gets a bad feeling. Gin knows Amelia is dead, because she killed her, but her daughter Alanna is back and helping with the auction. Gin also has a sneaking suspicion that the Circle is involved in this somehow, which means all of the Spider’s special talents may be needed. (JENNIFER ESTEP, dl $5.99)
